General Litigation
Our philosophy in dealing with litigation claims has always been:
“add value to the client who is unable to resolve the dispute”.
Instructing lawyers to resolve conflicts is a grudge purchase. Clients want to find a solution to the problem as efficiently and effectively as possible. We understand that and we work diligently to guide you through the dispute.
All parties to litigation be it claimant/applicant, defendant/respondent or an interested third party have rights and irrespective of the role our client has in the dispute at hand, we shall defend those rights.
What clients need is a friend who understands the law. To quote Lex Dowie (Retired Partner, Clyde & Co LLP):
“Ric Martin and I used to be partners in Eversheds and pretty much had to work together. Now I work with him from choice, valuing him as I do as a wise and supportive colleague who always makes the time to deal thoughtfully with difficult cases, and has no difficulty in separating the wood from the trees. Ric is an effective friend, which in the world of the law is what you need.”
We believe and live by these words. Our track record speaks for itself. Notably we have represented and continue to represent Life Esidimeni (Pty) Ltd in connection with the various inquiries related to the ill-fated transfer of Gauteng Mental Healthcare Users by the Gauteng Department of Health to the 27 non-governmental institutions. The death of 144 patients remains the single largest disaster in the Healthcare Industry in South Africa.
With regards to companies and other legal entities, we defend matters arising from the following types of disputes:
- Administrative Law including municipal law disputes with regulatory bodies;
- Criminal Law
- Civil Law;
- Family Law;
- Property Law;
- Labour Law
- Law of contract and in particular insurance contracts
